Story Feen! (slang in Cobh for, "Hello, what is happening this fine day?") Welcome to Cobh (pronounced Cove). Known as Queenstown from 1849–1920, Cobh is situated on the southern coast of Country Cork, Ireland. County Cork is known as "The Rebel County." It is the largest and southernmost county in Ireland with a history as lush and varied as the county itself. Cobh is on Great Island in Cork Harbor, known as the Harbor of Tears because it was the departure point for millions of Irish immigrants, the last port of call for the Titanic, and the city that sprung to aid of the passengers of the tragic Lusitania. First settled in 1000 B.C., Celts, Vikings, Normans, and Englishmen have all had a part in the story of the city, and stories are the soul of the Irish people. Perhaps it goes back to the Blarney stone. A natural storyteller, Eric definitely has the gift of the Blarney. The people charmed him during his short visit to the city. Loved this puzzle, as I enjoy all of the 40+ puzzles I have. It did have an extra outside piece that belongs to a different puzzle. Thought it might be from one puzzle I m haven't done yet, Camp Eagles Nest, but it doesn't seem so. So I think it may go to someone else's order, unfortunately.
This was our first WOODEN Dowdle puzzle...WOW!! Wish I could afford to get every Dowdle puzzle like this! Got it during your wonderful wooden puzzle sale/promotion this fall, along with the Norway one, both in 500 pieces.(I have Irish ancestry and my husband has Norwegian) We have collected nearly 80 Dowdle traditional puzzles starting with the "suitcase" editions...these 2 wooden puzzles are above and beyond in appearance, quality, fit, and feel ( the traditional ones are still the best of their kind ). The Cobh puzzle brought back wonderful memories of our visit there while touring England, Scotland, and Ireland.(these puzzles have been great comfort and escape during this unprecedented year 2020) We started out buying the places we have visited, now we are buying all the places we still want to visit...Eric's art and puzzles are the best...make great gifts too!!
