The wonders of Yellowstone National Park never cease to amaze visitors. The name "Yellowstone" was originally taken from French trappers who called it "Roche Jaune" literally meaning "stone yellow," due to the number of yellow stones in the river. It also covers approximately 3,500 square miles of lakes, canyons, rivers and mountain ranges, making the experience of seeing a deer, bison, and even an occasional black bear exciting. The park is also home to half of the world's geothermal features and the world's largest active super volcano, with thousands of small earthquakes happening every year, many of which are undetectable by people. The most famous one of course is Old Faithful. Soak in the beauty and complexity of this national park and begin your adventure!
Yellowstone National Park is part of our National Parks Series and is one of the paintings included in our Dowdle Doodles - National Parks coloring book.
As part of the 2016 National Park Service Centennial, Dowdle Folk Art encourages you to learn more about Yellowstone National Park.
