Shoemakers were important craftsmen for the Nauvoo, IL saints in the 1840's. The boot shop was one of thirteen shoe-making establishments in town. Owned and established by George Riser, a German immigrant, this shop was originally called, "Riser's Cheap Boot and Shoe Manufactory."
