In 1839, the settlement around the Colorado River in Texas was incorporated under the name of “Waterloo,” but it was changed shortly after to “Austin” in honor of Stephen F. Austin who was the Republic of Texas’ first secretary of state, also known as the “Father of Texas.” Today, Austin is known as a center for business and technology with many Fortune 500 companies putting headquarters or regional offices there such as Google, Apple Inc., Amazon, IBM, and Intel. You can also find many musicians and live music venues in the city. There is always something fun to do. Try your hand at stand-up paddle boarding, go out on a swan pedal boat, or enjoy some kite flying. You can also enjoy a long bike ride on 6 Mile Bike Way.

Missing in Austin

This is my fourth Dowdell puzzle. Generally, the quality is consistently. Excellent, however, this one is missing an edge piece. As I am set up in a room that is segregated from the rest of the house I am 100% certain the piece was not present. I am quite disappointed that I am going to have to add extra dollars to another order to replace the puzzle that I already purchased and assembled.

Missing a Piece — Again

We own 42 Dowdle puzzles and we’ve given our 4 oldest grandchildren Dowdle puzzles every Christmas for many years. We never had a problem until this year, when we’ve had TWO puzzles with a missing piece: the 1,000-piece Niagara Falls and a 500-piece Austin puzzle. We hope this is a fluke and not a sign of reduced Quality Control. Honestly, it isn’t us — there are no pets or small children in the house, just 2 older adults.

We still love this puzzle brand -- especially when it’s a puzzle of a place we have visited. Such fun!
