“Twenty-six miles across the sea, Santa Catalina is a-waitin’ for me. . .the island of romance.” So serenaded the Four Preps about Catalina Island. Even the primary town in this resort community off the coast of Southern California has a mystical name: Avalon. People have been attracted to the island for thousands of years and enchanted by its magic. Over a million people visit the island each year by ferries, private boats or aircraft. With its Mediterranean climate, there is no bad time to visit and if it’s your birthday, your ferry fare is free (with a paying companion). So have fun learning about or becoming reacquainted with this amazing island.

Dowdle going Downhill!

The image did not appear as bright and crisp as some other dowdle puzzles I have. I have never been so mad or frustrated at a puzzle. Multiple, over 50 pieces, were identical (color and shape) and fit everywhere. There was no way of knowing where the piece really fit until you get to the end of the puzzle and the last few pieces don’t fit. I am young and do puzzles all the time. This isnt a me problem, it’s a dowdle problem. I have over 20 dowdle puzzles and have never encountered this before. I bought 8 puzzles recently and am considering returning them because I am afraid once I open them they will have the same design flaw! So disappointed!

Most Frustrating Puzzle Experience!

This was the most frustrating puzzle experience I have ever had. I do 50-60 puzzles per year and 1,000 piece is usually my favorite format. Eric creates beautiful works of art but I do remember why I crossed Dowdle off my list a number of years ago. The 1,000 piece format! I discovered and have enjoyed a number of your 500 piece format puzzles just recently. I guess I now know why you carry over 300 puzzles in the 500 piece format and only about 100 in the 1,000 piece format.

Specifically, it took me all night to just assemble the frame or straight edges. So many pieces were exactly the same shape and fit in multiple places. The whole puzzle was this way! I had to do the sky of this puzzle to finish the frame and it was still very difficult. I guess I will look elsewhere for my 1,000 piece puzzles. Your pieces are also smaller than my favorite puzzle companies Ravensburger and White Mountain. These companies both produce beautiful images on quality puzzle board stock. Dowdle does this as well! I believe this is the key to bringing Dowdle up to their quality level in the 1,000 piece format. Both these companies have larger pieces than Dowdle. White Mountain's claim to fame is the largest puzzle pieces for the 1,000 piece format in the industry. Ravensburger's claim to fame is that every piece is unique. No two pieces are alike! This means no frustration with pieces that fit in multiple locations.

I hope this review is helpful and I also hope I one day hear that Dowdle has improved their 1,000 piece product. Thanks for listening.

I got this for my son who appreciates a fun puzzle. This one looks like it will be challenging but fun to find the great characters in the puzzle.

A huge disappointment!

I was not able to complete the puzzle because the last two pieces were the wrong pieces. In the row that the two pieces should have gone into there were only 5 of the pieces that were solid blue. All the other pieces had some other object in them. So they had a specific place to go. But no matter how configured the remaining 5 pieces, two were left over that didn’t fit the spaces.
